According to Canadian Rail Magazine in May/June of 1986:
“When the Irricana subdivision was abandoned by CP around 1977/78, the interlocking tower was destroyed and the signals stripped and toppled . So they remained, rotting in the bush, until leave was given in 1985 by CN for the Division to recover what it wanted . Unfortunately the interlocking lever frame was wrecked beyond hope, but numerous rodding guides and two reversing compensators were found…”
Incredible! thank you for adding to the story!

CN left the telegraph lines up.. it had that classic look!
A railway line without the poles looks naked.

And those poles are still there with wires. Interesting.
They’ve recently come down.
Correct, they have this past year and half, line ends just outside lyalta now. The only section that remains is Big Valley to Stettler (Alberta prairie steam excursions) and Oyen to Saskatoon (CNR).
Yes, not much left of these lines. Interestingly, I was just in Lyalta.
They have started pulling the line from Drumheller to Hanna…
I heard that. So sad.
This is the CN line that heads to Drumheller, right? I find it amazing that all the tracks are still in place.
Yes, that’s the line. I too am curious why they have not pulled up the tracks.
