Camrest Motel: In the Heart of Rose City

Welcome to the Camrest Motel, Camrose Alberta and please enjoy your stay. It’s a budget friendly kind of place, down by the tracks, in the old part of town and a little run down. You know, it’s the digs you might find us staying at when on the road and in of accommodations. Being tight fisted and that’s out of necessity, means we either couch surf, tent it or stay at joints like this.

We’re not complaining in the least and don’t just accept it, but embrace the experience. Glory be the dive motel.

Our subject first makes mention in phone books about 1970 and at the time advertised: “Modern Rooms in the Heart of Rose City.” The much older Windsor Inn (or Hotel) is located the next lot over and to which the Camrest is now connected. The motel sign says check in at the Windsor Office. We were actually here to scout that establishment for the Beer Parlour Project but it had yet to open for the day, so we’ll have to try again.

What can we say about that car, a forty some year old Dodge Shadow, other than it seems an almost perfect addition to the scene. If one were to guess, it’s probably run its last mile, or something close to that.
