We’re looking at a former business called Dick’s Service in Climax Saskatchewan. That’s actually the names of it and this little prairie community. That the town has a rather evocative title in not lost on visitors and the local populace alike. When speaking of it, the innuendos are usually anything but subtle and the double entendres always come hard and fast. Oh boy.
“It took us over five hours to reach Climax!” – the account of one person driving in from Calgary. “Please come again!” – a sign on a business and another seen when leaving town. “Some people live their entire lives and never get to Climax.” – a lament to those who will never visit the uplifting little village. “I’ve been close to Climax but never actually made it there.” – you keep trying!
You get the picture. It’s silly, immature stuff to bring out your teenage self again and make you chuckle. That’s how you do it here – embrace the silliness and let it all hang out. “Dick’s service is what brought me to Climax.” – A Facebook comment when we posted this photo there. It’s just begging it, so have a little fun.
Dick’s Service operated from the mid-1960s on, but we’re not sure when it closed. Sometime in 2000s is hinted at. Now this former gas station and service shop, along the main road through town, evokes only memories from those who knew the business, and perhaps a silly grin from out of towners. It probably gets a lot of double-takes and mischievous looks.
