I would be more apt to believe the sources which say 1978 for the rerouting of the highway. I remember being a young child driving with my folks over the old road and, being born in late ’72, I wouldn’t think I’d remember it if it was rerouted as early as 1974.
Maybe you were a real observant toddler? Haha. I have a hunch you are right Dan, although I checked my notes and interestingly more sources consulted stated the earlier date than the latter. I bet that old stretch of road was a real devil in the snow.
Hi. My son in Vanc. Forwarded all of this to me. I was born & raised in Blairmore & left in 1965. My husband Warren was also born & raised in Blairmore. We don’t realize the beauty of the Pass until we have moved away. The Sleepy Teepees was interesting for sure. owned by Max & Joyce Brown. he reminded me of Bob Hope. They are both deceased. When I was in High School we’d have the odd party in one of the Teepees. Drank a little Firewater. Ha. Emerald Lake is sooooo cold & you just want to put your toes in the water! great write-up & pics. Have a good day.
Wow, so cool! Every one connected to the Pass but not longer living there, it seems, still loves the place and greatly misses it. Thanks for commenting!
re the old Crowsnest highway my parents drove on that road in the twenties back and forth from Coleman to Corbin BC and it was still being used in the 60’s don’t think the new road came in till the early 70’s
That’s about what we heard. Thanks for commenting!
That’s home to me.
I love the Crowsnest too!
