CPR local Alix Alberta
While out exploring we take a quick break to document a slow moving local freight traveling along the CPR’s backwater Stettler to Lacombe branch. Three locomotives make short work of their small train, about ten cars long, which was spotted in the central Alberta community of Alix. Heading eastbound it’s just crossed the CNR’s north/south secondary line. The signal light seen protects that “intersection”.
The track here was built in the early years of the twentieth century and still sees use perhaps a few times a week. Customers include grain firms and others related to the petroleum industry. Leading the charge is a trio of General Motors GP38-2 model locomotives, built in the 1980s, and perfectly suited for this sort of yeoman service.
A friendly wave from the crew and the train is gone, and we’re on our way. It was a pleasant couple moments well wasted.

Sometimes it’s fun to just sit back and wait for a train.
It’s a strange thing to do, but I agree, it’s fun.
